For almost 30 years, the Institute for Social-Ecological Research has been developing basic scientific principles and sustainable concepts for politics, civil society and the economy – regionally, nationally and internationally. Its research areas include water, energy, climate protection, mobility, urban spaces and biodiversity.

A multidisciplinary team from the fields of social sciences, natural sciences, planning and engineering is employed at ISOE and its research projects are inherently multidisciplinary. This means that findings from social sciences and natural sciences flow into the research, but it also makes use of the experience and knowledge of partners with practical experience from civil society, politics and the business world.
